The Story of Babar, the Little Elephant

Translated from the original French, this is the first in a series of picture books that take readers into the life of a wise and good elephant king. Babar is a young elephant who lives a happy life in the forest. His happiness is destroyed, however, when a hunter kills his mother. Terrified and confused, Babar runs far away, eventually finding himself in the big city. There, he meets a kindhearted, and very rich, elderly woman who takes him in, buys him clothes, and even hires a professor to educate him properly. After two years of this very fine life, Babar returns to the forest where he marries the beautiful Celeste and is crowned King of the Elephants. Color illustrations accompany the text.
